An Ran Chen (he/his) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta, where he leads the SOftware Debugging and Analysis (SODA) Nexus lab. His research interests cover various topics in intelligent software quality assurance, including automated debugging and testing. His work has appeared in flagship software engineering venues, including TSE and EMSE journals, and ICSE, FSE, ASE, and NACCL conferences.

  • Before moving to Edmonton, he completed his Ph.D. in the Software PErformance, Analysis, and Reliability (SPEAR) lab at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
  • In addition to his academic career, he worked at the Bank of Canada, McGill University, and Huawei.
  • He speaks English, French and Chinese.
